The Medical Assistant Program
Anatomy & Physiology, including Medical Terminology
– I and II Includes: understanding the different body
systems and how they work in sickness and in health
and how words used in the practice of medicine are derived.

Examination Room Procedures – I and II
Includes: gaining proficiency in routine clinical
medical assisting skills such as vital signs, first aid, pharmacology, X-Ray techniques, sterilization
techniques, and assisting in minor surgery.
Electrocardiography (EKG)
Includes: proper techniques for performing
electrocardiographs and care of an EKG machine.
Laboratory Techniques
Includes: phlebotomy techniques and routine
laboratory tests in hematology, urinalysis and basic
blood chemistry.
Keyboarding
Includes: mastery of the keyboard and basic document
production and formatting skills, including medical
forms, reports and correspondence.
Word Processing
Includes: functional skill development and
production using Microsoft Word 2000.
Medical Billing
Includes: ICD-9 and CPT-4 coding, medical insurance
forms and billing procedures; using MediSoft for
maintaining patient information and CodeMaster for
automated coding of diseases and procedures.
Medical Office Management
Includes: medical law and ethics, medical records,
effective communication, appointment scheduling
and financial management.
Supervised Clinical Internship
Includes: working under the direct supervision of a
physician, clinical supervisor, or office manager to
gain hands-on experience.
